Denmark’s electric vehicle (EV) market achieved a remarkable milestone in 2024: for the first time, more than half of all new cars sold were electric. According to data from Bilstatistik.dk, EVs accounted for 51.5% of all new car sales throughout the year, cementing Denmark’s position as a leader in the transition to sustainable transportation.
The momentum was especially notable in December, where a staggering 61.5% of all new cars sold were electric. This surge capped off a record-breaking year and highlighted the growing demand for EVs as consumers increasingly opt for cleaner, more environmentally friendly mobility solutions.

Some experts predict that the proportion could exceed 65%, further solidifying Denmark’s leadership in the global EV transition.
